    "As a child, Joanne loved to read fantastic stories. She began to picture herself stories which she frequently read to her little sister."

    Studies

    "Joanne failed the entrance exams for Oxford University. Instead of Oxford, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Exeter in 1986. According to Joanne herself, she recalls doing little work, preferring to read Dickens and Tolkien. "

  4. 1987-1989

    Profesionnal life before Harry

    "After a short experiment at Amnesty International in London, she moved to Manchester where she worked at the Chamber of Commerce. "

  5. 1990

    Inspiration

    "The idea for a story of a young boy waiting for a train and attending a school of wizardry came into her mind while she was waiting for a train from Manchester to London King’s Cross. "

  6. 1991-1993

    Moving to Porto

    "Joanne taught English at night and began writing in the day inspiring by the beautiful city of Porto and numerous locations (such as the Lello Bookstore). She met there her first husband, Jorge Arantes, a television journalist, and had a child called Jessica. "

  7. 1994-1995

    Writing of Harry Potter

    "Following the couple’s separation, Joanne moved to Edinburgh and she raised her daughter in relative poverty, living on welfare. She started writing the first Harry Potter novel in cafés such as The Elephant House. "

  8. 26 June, 1997

    Publishing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

    "After being rejected by several publishers, Bloomsbury accepted to publish the first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. "

  9. 1998

    Publishing of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets & Film Rights

    "In July 1998, the second novel of Harry Potter is published. In October 1998, Warner Bros. purchased the film rights to the first two novels."
